The high-profile showdown between Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock will take place on Oct. 4 in Florida, televised by CBS. Yesterday the two warriors met via conference call in a prelude of verbal warfare which entertained and at times intrigued listeners. Who sounds more confident? Who seems more driven and determined? Which gladiator needs this victory more? Who’s bluffing? Judge for yourself as we present to you our selected out-takes of this classic conference call:

Ken Shamrock: “All I gotta say is I’m gonna apologize for my last couple of performances in MMA. I have my reasons for losing but they’re just excuses. On October 4th I will shut everyone up and I will make amends for those performances by putting Kimbo’s lights out.”

Kimbo: “Promise?”

Ken Shamrock: “I’m so sure of victory that after it’s over I’m gonna shave your goatee.”

Kimbo: “That’s what’s up.”

Ken Shamrock: “Experience is no. 1. He’s a big strong fighter. He has all the abilities to hurt you. Very dangerous. I’m gonna go in there and do what I do – Beat you up. I’m gonna go back to the old Ken Shamrock.”

Kimbo: “I never predict a fight. All I’m gonna say is I’m gonna keep the streaks the way they are. Ken’s gonna keep his streak (of losses) and I’m gonna keep mine (of wins).”

Ken Shamrock: “The way he looked in his last fight (vs. James Thompson), I’ll bet my house he won’t come into this fight the same way. I bring the media, I bring the attention. I guarantee you he will be better than ever before. Therefore I will beat the best Kimbo.”

Kimbo: “I’m gonna break his leg. To beat Ken is bragging rights. I don’t care if I don’t win any other fights. If I beat Ken I’m happy right there. I’m gonna go in there and get it done.”

Ken Shamrock: “I am (upset about being used as a stepping stone in this fight). Absolutely. I am taking this as an insult, as it is. And I’m gonna smash it in their face.”

Kimbo about if he sees Ken as a step stone? “I just hope he trains his ass off. And he’s coming to fight. He’s gonna really have to be Superman to beat me.”

Ken Shamrock: “You know how I am. I will find something to piss me off. So don’t take it as an insult.”

Kimbo: “Ten straight losing performances by Ken. Ken lost to Don Frye. Thompson beat Frye. I beat Thompson.”

Ken Shamrock: “The only time he knocks anyone out is when they get tired. I don’t respect his power or his grappling ability. I’m gonna go in there and whip his ass.”

Ken Shamrock: “You better look to the future. Oct. 4th it’s gonna end.”

Kimbo: “Yeah, yeah. Okay.”

Kimbo: “I’m still a rookie at it. I have the heart of a giant. With the way I’m training, Ken is gonna be my protein pancake. I’m gonna eat him up.”

Ken Shamrock: “I’m gonna be too fast for him. He’s gonna eat my punches and kicks. I’m not even gonna have to hit him to put him down. He’ll fall down from being tired.”

Kimbo: “I’m gonna let you hit me. I’m gonna give you a free chin shot.”

Ken Shamrock: “Everybody heard that. Everybody heard that.”

Kimbo: “I’m gonna give it to you.”

Ken Shamrock: “That’s why I’m the veteran and you’re the idiot.”

Kimbo: “I didn’t know he’s a comedian!”

Kimbo: “Every fight makes me a complete fighter. I’m prepared for a lot of shit. Losing is not an option. If it happens, I’ll use it and come back from it.”

Kimbo: “I’m honored to fight a legend. I’m honored and excited by it. To lose to Ken Shamrock is not a bad thing. To kick his ass is a positive thing.”

Ken Shamrock on if he respects Kimbo’s rise from street-fighting to MMA star? “No. At this particular time I have no respect for him at all.”

Kimbo: “That’s why you’re an idiot.”

Ken Shamrock: “Well I guess we’ll find that out, right jabroni?”

Ken Shamrock: “More power to him. The only thing I don’t like is that he’s getting in the ring with me. And I have to beat him down.”

Kimbo: “I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me. I have not turned down one name.”

Bas Rutten: “(Kimbo) would fight Mike Tyson if I let him.”

Ken Shamrock on what he has left to prove in MMA? “How about just because I love to fight and beat people up?”

Ken Shamrock: “This guy is from where I’m from. He’s trying to take my territory. It’s all about pride.”

Ken Shamrock on which fighter does Kimbo remind him of? “Tank Abbott.”

Ken Shamrock on what his profession would be if he wasn’t an MMA fighter? “I can’t hear the question.”

Kimbo on what his profession would be if he wasn’t an MMA fighter? “I’ve been a fighter all my life. If I couldn’t be an MMA fighter I probably would have been a hairdresser.”

Kimbo: “Beat the legend. That’s a big thing. I’ll be bragging about that. To beat Ken is a big thing, it’s a big thing. The world’s most dangerous man.”

Ken Shamrock on if he’ll ride off into the sunset if he wins? “No way dude. I’m not one of those guys who plays it safe. I love what I do. And will continue to fight as long as I’m able to. This is what I do.”

Kimbo: “Ken still has it. He still has the ability to pull something off.”

Kimbo: “Every opponent brings out something different in me as a fighter. I gotta come with another (different) gameplan for Ken, I gotta.”

Bas Rutten: “Never look past your opponent – is a saying. If he beats Ken, which I see happening, he’s on the way. I think Kimbo will do great against anybody.”

Ken Shamrock: “I am very disgusted with my last performances. I’ve been given an opportunity to wash it away. It’s an opportunity to revive my career in one shot.”
